New By-Law regarding the distribution of flyers

The Town of Riverview recently passed a By-Law regarding the distribution of flyers.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Flyers are defined as any non-subscription based printed or written matter, and includes a circular, leaflet, pamphlet, paper, booklet, postcard, coupon, or any other printed or otherwise reproduced matter;
  • Residents must post a sign or notice on their property stating they do not wish to receive flyers. The sign must be reasonably visible to a distributor;
  • Signs can be downloaded from this page, or residents can create their own based on the specifications in the By-Law;
  • Flyers distributed on properties must be placed either in a mail box, mail slot, or on a doorstep;
  • Flyers must not be distributed at a property where previously delivered flyers have not been retrieved for two consecutive weeks;
  • The minimum fine for an offence is $140 and the maximum fine for an offence is $2,100.
