Regular Council Meeting – November 13, 2018

Adoption of the Minutes

Monthly Grant Report

  • $100 to Sarah Stafford to participate in RDG Design Thinkers Conference in Toronto, ON.
  • $170 to the CTV Christmas Daddies Telethon.
  • Council waived the rental fee for Bridgedale Community Centre in the amount of $70 for the Filipino Association of New Brunswick.
  • Council passed a motion to deny all Community Investment Grants for the remainder of 2018 as the budget has been exhausted.

Policies

  • Council passed a policy presented by the Department of Human Resources relating to Substance Abuse for employees, council members, volunteers and contractors for the Town of Riverview. The policy outlines the requirements for all employees to be fit for work and reflects amendments to an existing substance use policy following the legalization of cannabis in Canada.
  • Council approved the Committee of the Whole Procedures Policy, which governs the composition and structure of Committee of the Whole meetings.
  • Council adopted a new Procurement Policy and Standard, which outlines the guidelines for procuring goods, services and construction.
  • Council accepted the recommendation to accept an update to the Snow and Ice Control Plan for the upcoming winter 2018/19. The Town will conduct a pilot project to assess service delivery standards with the understanding that the plan and outcome will be presented back to Council in the fall of 2019 before adopting the changes permanently.

Tenders and Requests for Proposals (RFP)

  • Award of Tender 18-72 to Saunders Equipment Limited in the amount of $514,000+HST for the supply of one new truck-mounted combination vacuum/flusher sewer cleaner.

Other Business

Council approved the sale of 461 Pine Glen Road, the land and building that has been occupied by the Riverview detachment of the RCMP for $774,547.50 to Spartaro Holdings Incorporated. The proceeds of the sale will be transferred to the Town’s Capital Reserve.

Chief Pleau shared the news that volunteer firefighter Shannon Knighton-Whalen is the recipient of a first place photo contest prize sponsored by AA Munro Insurance Company. The photo of firefighting equipment she submitted to the 2018 Fire Hall Photo Campaign won a $3000 prize, all of which Ms. Knighton-Whelan has donated to the Rebecca Schofield All World Super Play Park project.
