Special Council Meeting – September 23, 2019

Presentations and Delegations

  • Chuck Steeves presented on behalf of Hospice South East New Brunswick’s Celebration Capital Campaign. The organization is seeking financial support for its new residential hospice facility which will serve Westmorland, Albert and Kent Counties and be located in Moncton.
  • Kelly Taylor, manager of WA Transpo, shared an update on the organization’s affordable transportation service.
  • Colin Smith, CAO for the Town of Riverview, presented a history of the commercial and tourism activity at the Fundy Chocolate River Station. He also clarified misconceptions relating to the proposal for development on this property. This was a repeat presentation from the Sept. 9 Regular Council Meeting at the request of Council and residents since that meeting was not live-streamed as a result of a technical error.

Tenders and Requests for Proposals

  • Riverview Town Council accepted the recommendation outlined in the Council Report Form to take advantage of the Town's right to extend the award by purchasing a second truck with the successful supplier of the 68,000 GVW Tandem Truck being Universal Truck & Trailer in the amount of $160,950.00 plus HST.
  • Tender 19-85 for the Supply & Delivery of One (1) Latest Model 1 Ton Regular Cab (Gas) 4WD Truck, Chassis & Cab to Lounsbury Automotive in the amount of $38,850 (plus HST) and that the Mayor & Town Clerk be authorized to sign all related documentation. This will be a 2020 expenditure.

Recommendations 

  • Committee of the Whole recommends to endorse the proposed budget parameters for the preliminary 2020 capital and operating budgets for the general and utility funds.
  • Committee of the Whole recommends to direct Corporate Services to prepare the Code of Conduct for Elected Officials by-law for consideration and adoption at a Regular Meeting of Council.
  • Committee of the Whole recommends to refer the request for funding from Hospice South East New Brunswick’s Celebration Capital Campaign to the 2020 budget deliberations.

    These recommendations will be brought forward for adoption at the next Regular Council Meeting.

Other Business

  • Council accepted the recommendation outlined in the Council Report form dated September 18, 2019 to approve the proposed work on a portion of Callaghan Road and endorse the proposed funding plan included in the report.
  • Director of Economic Development Shane Thomson added to his departmental report a congratulatory message to Ayles Landscaping and Rehab 1. Both Riverview businesses are nominated for 2019 Chamber of Commerce Excellence Awards.
