Incubator Kitchen Provides Testing Ground for Food Startups

The Town of Riverview has opened applications for a new six-month incubator program geared towards early-stage startups operating in the food sector. Dedicated to catering, retail and wholesale food businesses, the Chocolate River Cookery will provide access to a state-of-the-art Class 5 commercial kitchen for companies looking to start, grow and accelerate production.

Acting as a unique testing ground for entrepreneurs to create and sell their products, the Chocolate River Cookery will offer incubatees the tools and resources needed for successful business development over a six-month period through the Town’s Economic Development Department. Not only is the space available for emerging businesses to launch their new venture, it is also open to the general public to host community events on sustainable food practices.

“The Chocolate River Cookery will give small-to-medium sized businesses the opportunity to legalize production with the goal of further developing and commercializing their product,” says Shane Thomson, Director of Economic Development. “At the Town of Riverview we are committed to creating and supporting the development of sustainable food networks, and the Chocolate River Cookery is just one piece of that puzzle.”

The Chocolate Riverview Cookery offers a competitive hourly rate for businesses accepted into the program as well as the convenience of 24-hour access Monday to Sunday. The Town of Riverview welcomes applications to the kitchen incubator program throughout the year and will accept two cohorts annually beginning in September. Upon completion of the program, companies will be expected to outgrow the facility and have the resources needed to be self-sufficient.
