Medavie donates $500K to Riverview Recreation Complex to help support community wellness

Moncton, New Brunswick, February 4, 2021 – Medavie, through its Foundation, is providing $500,000 to help support healthy living and modern recreational spaces for individuals and families in New Brunswick through the development of a new Riverview Recreation Complex.

The Riverview Recreation Complex (RRC) will be a year-round community gathering place that promotes wellness and encourages all generations to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. With its inclusive design, the RRC will provide access to recreational services for community groups that serve at-risk populations and expand placements through the Town of Riverview’s P.R.O. Kids Program – removing financial barriers for children participating in recreation activities. Uniquely positioned next to the Mill Creek Nature Park, the complex will make it easier for friends and families to connect with each another and with nature.

“Recreational facilities are at the heart of every community – providing a safe place to discover, connect and create,” said Bernard Lord, CEO of Medavie. “At Medavie, our mission is to improve the wellbeing of Canadians and we believe making a meaningful difference in our communities is more important than ever. The Riverview Recreation Complex will improve access to active living and wellbeing, while enriching the community for generations to come.”

Rooted in a commitment to accessibility, inclusivity and activity, the new centre will feature a year-round cultural and sporting complex. This project will increase the number of recreational programs and services in the area, including a fully accessible complex for swimming, field sports, public meetings and community spaces.

“Thanks to Medavie’s pivotal donation, New Brunswickers will have access to much-needed recreation facilities that will help with the region’s growing success,” says David Ford, fundraising chair, and owner of Ford’s Jean Coutu Pharmacy. “It will have facilities that everyone will want to use to support their overall health and wellbeing that are not yet available in the community. It will also offer an important economic impact in the community post-pandemic for sports events, construction and bringing people back together.”
