Merge lane on Hillsborough Road to be extended 400 metres this summer

Two eastbound lanes on Hillsborough Road that merge past the Gunningsville Bridge will be extended approximately 400 metres later this summer.

“Hillsborough Road from the Gunningsville Bridge to Old Coach Road will be resurfaced in August as part of the 2019 Capital Program,” said Michel Ouellet, the Town’s Director of Engineering and Public Works. “The removal of current lane markings when the asphalt is milled provided the Town with an opportunity to change the lane markings on this section of roadway for a more efficient layout.

After assessing the existing traffic, staff determined that motorists are infrequently making westbound left-turns from Hillsborough Road between Chesswood Drive and Hillview Avenue. This provided the opportunity to repurpose the westbound left-turn lane and extend the second eastbound thru-lane to Chesswood Drive.

Travellers can expect to see the new lane markings completed in late August.
