Riverview artists invited to submit proposals for first ever Spring Art Exhibit

RIVERVIEW (N.B.) – The Town of Riverview is inviting artists to take part in the first annual Spring Art Exhibit organized by the Art Procurement Committee.

The exhibit is in partnership with Riverview Public Library and will take place from Tuesday, April 7 – Saturday, May 2, 2020.  The citizen-led Art Procurement Program (APP) jury will also select artwork(s) to purchase on behalf of the Town of Riverview to be added to the town’s art collection.

Riverview's Art Procurement Program aims to improve the appearance of our public buildings, promote local talent and contribute to the economic success of artists in our community.

Artists can complete a submission form online or collect a form from the Riverview Public Library or Parks and Recreation Office. The deadline for form submissions is March 27, 2020.

If you are considering submitting artwork, please review the APP Policy to ensure you have met the requirements prior to making your submission. A completed APP Application Form must be attached to any artwork submitted for consideration.

Eligibility

To apply, artists must be a Riverview resident for at least twelve consecutive months. Artist eligibility is not reliant on an artist’s professional status but rather on the artwork. No work by any member of the APP jury or their immediate family will be considered for purchase.

Art acquisition

The Town of Riverview will purchase artwork from the works submitted for this call. The artwork must be deemed appropriate for the Town’s art collection based on the selection criteria established by the APP policy. The artwork will be displayed in Riverview Town Hall’s Council Chambers for up to two years following acquisition and then may be relocated to another Town-owned public building.

Submissions

Each artist may submit one piece of work. Artwork must be original and be suitably framed and ready to hang. Art that is not accompanied by the APP application form will not be considered.

Artwork drop-off and pick-up

Artwork must be delivered to the Riverview Public Library on Saturday, April 4, 2020 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Submissions will not be accepted after this date and time. The artist is responsible for unpacking their artwork and taking their packaging with them. Subsequently, the artist is responsible for re-wrapping upon pick-up, Saturday, May 2, 2020 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Town of Riverview is not responsible for any artwork not picked up at this time.

Acceptance

Artists whose work is selected for purchase will be notified by telephone by April 8, 2020.

An opening reception will be held at the Library on April 9, 5-7 p.m.

In 2019, the Art Procurement Program jury selected and purchased seven pieces of artwork.  Four from their own call out including: Watering Cans by Ira Crummey, Frosted Coats by Chrystal Moynagh, Lilies Dock by Ji Hyang Ryu and Northern Lights by Stephen Ritchie.

They also purchased three pieces of artwork chosen from the Riverview Library Art Show which ran from Oct- Nov 29, 2019 including: 5 Baby Swallows in a Nest by Diane Cote, Sackville Days by Allison Davidson and Backyard Birch by Lisa Killam.
