Riverview artists invited to submit work for Spring Exhibit

RIVERVIEW (N.B.) – The Town of Riverview is inviting local artists to submit work for its first-ever Spring Art Exhibit to be held at the Riverview Public Library from April 13 to May 7.

“We would like to thank the Library for allowing us to display up to 40 pieces for the show, being organized by our Art Procurement Committee,” says Paulette Tingley, the Town’s Youth and Community Coordinator, and Town liaison to the Art Procurement Committee.

Following the spring exhibit, the citizen-led committee will select and purchase artwork on the Town’s behalf to add to its collection.

“The Town of Riverview's Art Procurement Program aims to improve the appearance of our public buildings, promote local talent and contribute to the economic success of artists in our community,” says Tingley.

Submissions forms for the Spring Art Exhibit can be found online at www.townofriverview.ca/form/artist-submission-form. They can also be picked up at the Riverview Public Library, 34 Honour House Court, or at the Parks and Recreation Office, 55 Biggs Drive. Forms must be received by 4:30 p.m. March 31 and must meet the requirements of the Art Procurement Program (APP) Policy, available at www.townofriverview.ca/app.

To apply for the exhibit, artists must be Riverview residents and must have been a resident for at least twelve consecutive months. Artist eligibility does not rely on professional status but on the artwork. Work by members of the APP jury or immediate family will not be considered for purchase.

Each artist may submit one piece of work. Art must be original, suitably framed and ready to hang. Work that is not accompanied by the APP application form will not be considered.

Submissions must be dropped off at the Riverview Public Library on April 10 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Work will not be accepted after this date and time. Artists are responsible for unpacking their pieces and taking packaging with them. Following the exhibit, artists are responsible for re-wrapping their art upon pick-up, May 8 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (The Town of Riverview is not responsible for art not collected at this time.)

Artists whose work is selected for purchase will be notified by telephone by April 13, 2021.

Information about the Town of Riverview’s Art Procurement Program can be found at www.townofriverview.ca/community/arts-and-culture/art-procurement-program. Those with additional questions can contact Paulette Tingley at ptingley@townofriverview.ca.

Work purchased by the Town’s Art Procurement Committee following the exhibit must be deemed appropriate for the municipality’s collection based on criteria in the APP policy. The art will be displayed in Riverview Town Hall’s Council Chambers for up to two years following acquisition and then may be relocated to another Town-owned public building.

In 2020, the Art Procurement Program jury selected and purchased four pieces from the Riverview Library Fall Art Show. They include:  “Marsh Visitor” – Dianne Ryan; “Transitioning” – Doreen Tait; “World on Fire” – Shannon Williams-Moss; and “Caissie Cape” – Stephen Ritchie.
