Update: Hurricane Dorian (Sept. 8)

Hurricane Dorian has now passed our region.

The town suffered some minor damage due to fallen trees. There have been no reports of injuries as a result of the storm or storm-related basement flooding.

More than 55,000 clients in New Brunswick have lost power. This includes 3,000+ clients in Riverview. NB Power is working diligently to restore electricity but this will take time. Consult the NB Power site for estimated time of repairs in your area.

If you are using a generator for backup power please follow these safety tips:

  • Generators should be used in a well-ventilated area outdoor area at least 5 feet away from all doors, windows and vent openings. Measure the 5 foot distance from the generator exhaust system to the building. The exhaust must be directed away from the building.
  • Never use a generator in an attached garage, even with the door open.
  • Turn off generators and let them cool down before refueling. Never refuel a generator while it is hot.
