Targeted Industries

There are a number of industries that the Town of Riverview is targeting for growth. Companies looking to set up in Riverview can choose the central commercial area, Findlay Park or the exciting new commercial area being developed

Back offices/call centres

Riverview is already home to a several large scale back office/call centre operations and over 1,000 people work in these facilities.  Companies setting up in Riverview have easy access to a Greater Moncton workforce of over 100,000 people, a competitive operating cost environment and an excellent telecommunications infrastructure.

Software development studios

The City of Moncton was recently named one of the world’s Smart21 Communities of 2009 by the New York-based Intelligent Community Forum. Over 400 communities worldwide competed for this distinction. The Town of Riverview is part of the Greater Moncton region and has access to the same workforce, companies and creative institutions that led to this Smart21 designation. From 1996 to 2006 the number of people working in computer and information technology jobs grew by almost 270% - one of the fastest growth rates of any urban area in Canada. If you are looking to set up a software development studio in the region, you should consider the Town of Riverview.

Restaurants

There are only 1.1 restaurants in Riverview per 1,000 residents compared to 3.9 per 1,000 in the neighbouring City of Dieppe and 5.2 per 1,000 in the City of Moncton.   At the same time, the estimated amount of money spent on eating out in Riverview each year is over 18% higher per household than in the City of Moncton. Retail

Retailers considering expansion in the Greater Moncton region should take a close look at the Town of Riverview. Retailers locating in the Town have access to a captive market of over 27,000 residents and a local catchment market of some 40,000 residents. In addition, the demographic profile of these residents shows much higher average income levels as well as higher disposable income compared to the City of Moncton. Although Riverview has a significantly lower number of retail stores in the community, a higher percentage of its residents work in retail jobs (most commute to Moncton). Almost 15% of employed people from Riverview work in retail compared to 12.4% in Greater Moncton and 11.7% across the province.

There are several options for retailers to consider when looking at Riverview as a site for a new retail facility: the Central Commercial area, the Findlay Park Commercial area, and the future commercial node off Gunningsville Boulevard.

Riverview Town Council and senior leadership are seeking to attract more retailers and capture more retail activity in the local market providing more convenience to residents as well as increasing economic activity within the Town.

Accommodation

The bulk of Greater Moncton’s hotel and accommodations facilities are located in either Downtown Moncton or on the periphery of the community near the Trans Canada Highway. There are no hotel facilities located in the Town of Riverview despite its population base and proximity to the City of Moncton. In addition, the Central Commercial area of Riverview has an excellent view of Downtown Moncton over the Petitcodiac River. The Town is interested in working with any potential hotel development project.

Tourism and cultural facilities

The Town of Riverview is strategically located at the entry point to the Fundy tourism region in New Brunswick. Fundy is one of the most important and strategic tourism areas in all of Atlantic Canada. Some 180,000 people visit the Hopewell Rocks annually and 600,000 patronize Fundy National Park. Cape Enrage is also a key tourism asset. In addition, governments are making significant investments in the Fundy Trail connecting the region with a unique activity-based venue. Riverview is an ideal location for tourism and cultural facilities looking to take advantage of both the local market and the tourist traffic during the summer months.
