Town of Riverview / 8 Family-Friendly Activities in Riverview This Summer

Summer is all about the people you spend it with, and this summer we can’t wait to welcome families to our playgrounds, splash pads, restaurants, and beyond. We’re pretty proud to call this cosy town our home, and we’re excited to share it with your family too. Maybe you’re our neighbour, or perhaps you have come from away. Whatever the case may be, there is so much for you to discover and explore within the town limits. Here are 8 of our favourite family-friendly activities that we invite you to try this summer in Riverview!

1.  Pack a picnic and visit the Riverfront Park
Riverview is known for its beautiful waterfront, and we can’t think of a better way to spend the dog days of summer than with your family at the Riverfront Park. It’s the perfect place for a picnic lunch in the gazebo or the various picnic tables along the Riverfront Trail. There’s also a lighthouse, covered bridge, and local artwork to explore, and of course - gardens and a playground for the kids.

2. Enjoy the sun at the community pool
Did you know that Riverview has an outdoor community pool in the summertime? Well, now you do! The Lion Ken Gabbey Community Pool is a supervised outdoor pool featuring a large deck area for fun and relaxation. And it’s opening just in time for those summer days scorchers! Grab the cooler, the children’s water wings, and we’ll see you in the shallow end!

3. Try a tennis lesson at the Riverview Tennis Club
The Riverview Tennis Club is home to the six best-kept clay courts in Southeastern New Brunswick, and it’s ready to welcome you and your family to give tennis a try this summer. Book a lesson or two, and you never know - this might be your family’s new favourite activity! And of course, you can always go cool off at the outdoor pool when you’re done!

4. Splash around at the water pad
On a hot summer day, the Splash Pad is the place to be in Riverview for kids of all ages! Located at 50 Runneymead Road, Riverview’s community splash pad is fully equipped with public washrooms, a playground and community garden. Whether you plan to spend a day, or pop by to cool off - it’s open daily throughout the summer months and just waiting for you to stop by!

5. Go on a scavenger hunt
We here in Riverview feel that public art is invaluable because it’s accessible and open to everyone. What many don’t realize is just how many incredible pieces of art and murals there are to uncover around town. Why not take the kids on a scavenger hunt to find public art throughout the community. Use this resource as your reference and start your quest today! Whoever comes in last has to treat everyone to an icea cream cone at the Ice Cream Barn.

6. Don’t forget the fur children!
Who says that summer is only for kids? This summer, remember to spoil your fur children too! Take them to Isaac’s Run Dog Park, Riverview’s first dog park, where they can stretch their legs and make new friends. Maybe they'll learn a trick or two. Once you’ve tuckered them out, stop by Global Pet Foods to spoil your pup with homemade treats and a squeak toy.

7. Indulge in some cool treats and one of the best milkshakes around
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! It’s not summer without frequent trips to the ice cream shop, so make sure to stop by the Ice Cream Barn with the kids to pick up a delicious treat. Want to try one of the best milkshakes around? Stop by Steve’s Diner - you won’t be disappointed! We hear their chocolate milkshake is to die for.

8. Plant a garden together at Riverview’s Community Garden
Is there anything better than fresh garden vegetables in the summer? The answer is only if you grew them yourself! This summer, why not consider renting a bed at Riverview’s Community Garden for the whole family to learn about gardening and food sustainability! The Community Garden is a safe and welcoming place for people to gather, be active, and share their knowledge and gardening experience. And with plots costing only $25 a year, it’s probably the best investment your family will make all summer! What activities will your family plan this summer?
