2022 Line Painting Program
The Town of Riverview would like to advise that the 2022 Line Painting Program on town streets will be commencing the week of June 27th to July 29th, weather pending. Stripe Works Ltd will be completing the painting program again for us this year. The program may take several days to complete with minor traffic interruptions in some areas as needed.
Line painting on roads is an important roadway safety initiative. Lines are used to give motorists messages about allowable or prohibitive driving procedures. Because the safety of all motorists is important, the lines on area roads are repainted each year.
Line Painting FAQ
- During what time of day does line painting occur? - Line painting may be completed in the late morning, mid-day, evening, or night time hours.
- How is line painting done? – Line painting is a moving operation; there is a paint truck with a truck following behind when it is taking place. Flashing lights and LINE PAINTING – WET PAINT signs are mounted on the back of equipment to warn motorists that line painting is being done.
- Why slow down? – The operation usually travels about 13-15 km per hour so please slow down and be patient when warned of work ahead.
- How far to Keep back? – Stay at least 8 to 10 car lengths behind line painting equipment to avoid running over wet paint. Wet traffic paint on the road may splatter on your vehicle if you cross the line before the paint has dried.
- How long does it take for paint to dry? – Normal latex (water based paint) used for roadway application usually dries within (2-5) minutes of application depending on weather and surface conditions.
- Paint operations are causing traffic backups, can we pass the warning trucks? – The intent of the warning trucks behind the line painter, is to provide enough space and time to allow for the paint to dry. If you cross the centerline to pass line painting operations, chances are that your vehicle will end up with paint on it. Please be patient and follow the direction of the marking vehicles.
- What can I do if I get paint on my vehicle? – If you find that you have paint on your vehicle, at your earliest opportunity go to a car wash or have your vehicle power sprayed to try and remove the paint. If that does not remove the paint, spray household cleaning products such as Simple Green, Purple Power, or WD40 on your vehicle and let dry for two hours, and then rewash. Do not scrub with any type of abrasive pad or cloth. This may ruin the clear coat on your vehicle. All washing should be done with soap and water, and using a vehicle wash brush or sponge. If the paint remains, consider submitting a claim to your insurer.
- If I cannot remove the paint, is the Town responsible? – The Town of Riverview assumes no liability for paint damages to vehicles that have crossed wet paint lines or disobeyed the warning signs and vehicles.
