Citizens encouraged to spread kindness on Becca Schofield Day, Sept. 15, 2018

RIVERVIEW (N.B.) – On September 15, 2018, Riverview residents are encouraged to perform acts of kindness to mark the second annual Becca Schofield Day.

While battling terminal brain cancer, Becca Schofield’s campaign to spread kindness inspired thousands in her hometown of Riverview and around the world through the hashtag #BeccaToldMeTo. Becca’s battle with cancer ended on Feb. 17, 2018 when she passed away at the age of 18. Her community at home and abroad have kept the movement alive.

“Becca touched the hearts of everyone in this community and encouraged us all to look for moments of joy in every challenge we face, no matter its size,” said Mayor Ann Seamans. “Her legacy lives on through her request to the world and in the acts of kindness we will continue to perform in her name.”

In 2017, the Government of New Brunswick passed a motion declaring the third Saturday of September "Becca Schofield Day.”  

To honour the occasion, the Riverview Arts Centre is hosting a free concert on September 15 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Donations will be given to the Lion's Sick Children's Fund. Performers include Riversong, Patrick Murray, Mike Campbell, Melanie Mealey and Tim Beatty, Paul Lee, Cameron Malloy, Carole Daigle, Connie Saulnier and Story of the Unknown. There will be a free barbecue for guests outside the Riverview Arts Centre provided by the Riverview Lion's Club.
