Oath of office ceremony held Monday for Riverview Town Council

(RIVERVIEW, NB) – New and returning members of Riverview Town Council took their oath of office Monday night, with Andrew J. LeBlanc taking his oath as the Town’s new mayor.

“I’m so excited to get started,” said LeBlanc during the evening. He later paid tribute to outgoing mayor Ann Seamans for an outstanding job as mayor during the past nine years and as a councillor for 14 years prior to that.

“I can’t thank you enough for the impact you’ve had on the Town of Riverview and on me,” he told Seamans, who previously announced she is retiring from politics.

The following is a list of those elected / re-elected to Riverview Town Council, and sworn in Monday night:

  • Mayor: Andrew J. LeBlanc (former Councillor-at-Large and Deputy Mayor)
  • Councillors-at-Large: Cecile Cassista (re-elected), Russell Hayward, Heath Johnson
  • Ward 1 Councillor: Sarah J. Murphy
  • Ward 2 Councillor: John R. Coughlan (re-elected)
  • Ward 3 Councillor: Jeremy Thorne (re-elected)
  • Ward 4 Councillor: Wayne Bennett (re-elected)

Councillor Jeremy Thorne was elected Deputy Mayor during the new Council’s first meeting Monday following the oath of office ceremony.

Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, the ceremony was not open to the public but the Mayor and Councillors were each permitted to invite a guest. The public could view a livestream feed of the event on the Town’s website.
