Record number of Town employees certified in First Aid/CPR

RIVERVIEW (N.B.) When you’re in a Town of Riverview facility, your safety is always our number one priority. And now, a record number of Town employees are certified in First Aid/CPR and use of AEDs.

"We are happy to announce that this year 82% of permanent full-time staff are certified First Aid/CPR providers. This is beyond our emergency responders in the fire department, aquatics division, and those in part-time roles working directly with vulnerable populations who are required to obtain certification,” said Colin Smith, Chief Administrative Officer. “Every member of the organization actively participates in maintaining a safe and healthy work culture.”

All employees are encouraged to take advantage of the free staff training offered each year by Deputy Chief of Training Robin True (Canadian Red Cross First Aid and CPR Instructor).

“Employees in a variety of positions throughout the organization are equipped to provide life-saving skills in stressful situations,” said Deputy True. “During the training sessions, we also teach the importance of early defibrillation and how to use an AED. Anyone can take action to save a life.”

Free CPR-C course

To promote a safer community through more trained responders, the Town of Riverview will once again offer a free CPR-C course for members of the public on Saturday, November 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CPR-C provides life-saving treatments for adults, children and infants when a heart attack, stroke or choking occurs. Registration is required and will remain open until all 80 spots are filled. Visit www.townofriverview.ca/programs to register.

September 8, 2018 was World First Aid Day, an annual campaign by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to promote the importance of first aid training in preventing injuries and saving lives.
