Residents encouraged to prepare for weekend storm

Heavy snow and rain are on the way this weekend. Flooding, power outages and poor road conditions are all possible.

Simple steps taken now can go a long way toward reducing the impact of weather-related and other emergencies. Residents should review their emergency plans and prepare their families, homes, and vehicles. Here are some simple steps you can take to be ready:

✅ Check supplies in your 72-hour emergency kit. These items allow you to be self-sustainable for up to three days in the event of a snow storm, power outage or disaster. Riverview Fire and Rescue Deputy Mitch Short shares what you should include in your kit in the video below.
✅ Sign up for ‘Public Safety and Emergency Measures’ email alerts so you don’t miss information about warming shelters, water service disruptions, etc.
✅ Clear leaves and debris from catch basis near your home to help rain drain.
✅ Avoid parking on the street during or immediately following a storm. If your vehicle obstructs plowing or sanding, it will be ticketed or towed.
