Residents urged to prepare 72-hour emergency kit

The Town of Riverview is actively monitoring the evolving weather patterns predicted to impact Southeastern New Brunswick on Friday, December 23 into Saturday, December 24.

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected. While weather patterns are subject to change, it’s important to be prepared. As such, the Town’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is now operating at Level 1 – Monitoring.

Residents are reminded to prepare their property in advance of the storm (put away or secure outdoor furniture, decorations, shovels, and equipment) and that they should always have a basic emergency kit readily available that includes enough water, nonperishable food, batteries and first aid supplies for 72 hours.

With high winds, there is a possibility of fallen trees resulting in power outages. In case of a power outage, the following tips actions are recommended:

• Have non-perishable food and water for each family member including pets, plus flashlights and a battery-operated radio

• Fuel portable generators and vehicles

• Check on neighbours, especially those with disabilities or medical needs

You can get additional information on the storm here.
