Sustaina-Palooza 2018

The Town of Riverview is hosting the fourth annual Sustaina-Palooza, April 26-28, 2018. Sustaina-Palooza shines a spotlight on leadership and practices that are effecting change in our town, region and province, supporting the Envision Riverview Community Sustainability Plan. Over three days, participants will enjoy inspiring discussions about initiatives happening in our region targeted at building individual capacity for a sustainable future.

Thursday, April 26, 6:30 p.m.
Eco Session at Riverview Community Hall (145A Lakeside Drive)

Ready to move toward a zero-waste lifestyle? Want to reduce your home’s impact on the environment? Learn what’s worked – and what hasn’t – from people who’ve made sustainable choices a part of their daily routines. The town’s first eco session, hosted by the Ladyboss Collective, invites community members to an evening of conversation and networking with leaders in the local sustainability movement.

Keynote speaker Macx McNichol is the owner and operator of Eco Container Co. in Dorchester. After retiring he started a small business recycling plastic food grade and non-food grade containers. His products range from 1 litre to 1000 litres and have been sold to consumers repurposing them for recreation activities, gardening, waste collection and rainwater harvesting along with many other projects. Due the growing global concern for our water supply, he now offers workshops and short presentations teaching people how to collect, conserve, divert and utilize rainwater and other sources at a very low cost by using recycled containers.

Stay tuned for a panel discussion featuring Avery Towner (owner of Lily Pads, a zero-waste feminine hygiene product company), Ryan Smith (owner of Fundy Farms speaking about off-grid living) and Aaron Shantz (Outreach Coordinator for Our Food Southeast New Brunswick sharing sustainable food principles).

There will also be an update on the Town’s Green Team and community-wide sustainability efforts by Director of Economic Development Shane Thomson, kiosks for guests to discover new products and services, and green swag door prizes including a $300 gift card to the kiosk of your choice!

Friday, April 27
Riverview High School Idea Market (not open to public)

Students at Riverview High School will pitch their ideas for Envision Riverview Micro-Grant projects. The day offers a lively civic engagement exchange as students present their projects and discuss potential collaboration with community leaders and town representatives. Guest speaker Marcel Petitpas will share an inspiring message for young change-makers and entrepreneurs.

Saturday, April 28, 1-3 p.m.
Awarding of the Envision Riverview Micro-Grants at Riverview Town Hall

Wrapping up the festivities will be the Envision Riverview Micro-Grants! Students, community organizations and residents will pitch to our panel of judges for sustainable community improvement projects that align with the goals in Envision Riverview. Everyone is invited to take in the pitches and cheer for their favourite project!

All events are free to attend.
