Town Council considers new signage regulations

Next Monday, Council will hold a public presentation to review new provisions for commercial signage in Riverview.

Citizen feedback and consultation with the business community informed staff’s proposal to Council. If accepted, the new regulations will increase the number of signage options businesses are permitted to use to promote themselves, while protecting public safety and maintaining community ambience.

The proposal allows for electronic message signs which were not previously covered under any Town of Riverview by-law. Electronic signs will be subject to certain restrictions on location, brightness and operating hours. The proposed signage provisions will also reduce the number of temporary portable signs installed permanently throughout the town by requiring commercial property owners to apply for a 30-day permit up to a maximum of three times per year.

You can review the presentation ahead of time in the Council Meeting agenda (in the Public Presentation file) or join the meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 in Council Chambers. The Regular Council Meeting will immediately follow.
