Holiday Season Safety

Winter holidays are supposed to be a time of joy and happiness. But it is also, statistically, a time of greater risk for fire.

Following a few simple tips will help keep your holiday season fire-safe:

• If you purchase a natural Christmas tree, make sure it’s freshly cut. Pick a tree with a strong green colour and noticeable fragrance. Christmas Trees use up to four litres of water per day, so be sure to check the water in the base daily.
• Choose holiday decorations that are flame resistant or flame retardant.
• Keep lit candles away from decorations, curtains, and other things that burn, blow out lit candles when you leave the room or go to bed.
