Riverview Town Hall

Imagine if your Town not only celebrated living well, but had a facility dedicated to the wellness of the entire community? In pursuit of this progressive goal, in 2012 Council directed the Wellness Centre Committee to conduct a feasibility study to consider options for a new indoor facility that would meet current and future recreation needs. The feasibility study was presented to Council and the public at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on February 23, 2015.

Why was this process initiated?

As Riverview continues to grow, so will the demands on our facilities, programs and services. There is a need to protect existing assets and plan for the future. The Wellness Centre Committee was tasked with answering: How do we continue to offer excellent wellness opportunities and how do we grow those opportunities?

The committee has highlighted the variety of existing opportunities for recreation, leisure and wellness in Riverview and noted the significant financial and personnel support of those initiatives by the Town.

The Wellness Centre Committee conducted extensive community consultations in 2013 including a citizen survey and a user group survey (e.g. minor sports, aquatics, skate, tennis, walking groups, etc). Trace Planning and Design was engaged to carry out four ward sessions and a user group feedback session as well as pull all the data together in a report.

To support their work, Town Council approved funds in the 2014 budget to hire consultants to complete a feasibility study for a new Wellness Centre for Riverview. After an RFP process WSP Canada Inc was hired by the Town of Riverview to execute that work.

WSP was tasked with examining the feasibility of a Wellness Centre today, the necessary components, the cost of building and operating it and funding options. An examination of the current facilities conditions was also part of this work.

The Committee is dedicated to moving the concept of a Community Wellness Centre forward in Riverview in a responsible manner with minimal tax increases.
