Deputy Mayor

Sarah Murphy is serving her first term as Councillor for Ward 1 after being elected in 2021. She was elected Deputy Mayor in June 2023. A part-time teacher with the Anglophone East School District prior to joining Council, Sarah has been an active community volunteer since 2007. She has served on various boards and committees such as the Riverview Library Board, the Riverview East Parent and School Support Committee, the Friends of Mill Creek Committee, and has also been involved with the local Neighbourhood Watch committee and Pickleball Board.

Sarah decided to run for Riverview Town Council in hopes of giving back to her community in an even greater capacity. She is a strong advocate for community services, especially those that contribute to active lifestyles for all ages and abilities, as well as increased programming for youth. In addition, she is passionate about community safety, active transportation, sustainable growth, attracting new business to Riverview and support local entrepreneurs.

Sarah also believes strongly in the importance of community connectedness and ensuring that all new residents feel welcome to Riverview.

When not busy working to improve her community, Sarah enjoys spending time with her sons, Grady and Jesse and family and friends.  Favourite family activities include hiking, biking and snowshoeing in Mill Creek Nature Park. Sarah’s other interests include camping, golf, pickleball, gardening, cooking, entertaining, reading, puzzles, and travel.
