2022 Riverview Winter Carnival to kick off Feb. 4

RIVERVIEW (N.B.) – Riverview Winter Carnival is a go for Feb. 4 to 13, 2022!

“This festival and community are resilient,” says Ash Arrowsmith, who organizes the festival and serves as the Town of Riverview’s Community Recreation Coordinator.

“We had to get creative this year to plan for all possible scenarios, but we are thrilled to be able to now share more than 30 activities folks can participate in under level 2 in the province’s COVID-19 Winter Plan,” he continued.

A highlight of Maritime winters since 1975, Riverview Winter Carnival embraces ice and snow during 10 days of outdoor adventures and old-fashioned play.

Riverview’s Snow Sculpture Challenge is already underway with dozens of kits delivered to local households as they prepare to show off amazing feats of creativity in their own front yards!

Residents can enter a photo of their snow creations into one of three categories for a chance to win one of (5) Winter Adventure Getaways to Alma (two-night stay in a heated hurt at Fundy National Park and a $30 gas card).

Creative Snow Sculpture: Showcase your snow sculpting talents by making anything you want! Prizes awarded by a panel of community judges.

Bird Snow Sculpture: This is an easy and fun way to participate by sculpting a bird. Whether it be a penguin, an owl, a goose, a duck or even an eagle, we’re challenging you to get creative!

New! Voter’s Choice: All snow sculptures entered into this category will be featured on a digital map on the website and voted on by the community.

Voters are also eligible to win one of the top prizes. For complete challenge details, including a full list of prizes, snow sculpting tips, and instructions on how to receive a free Snow Sculpting Kit – available in limited quantities for Riverview residents – visit www.townofriverview.ca/snowchallenge

Other outdoor activities and virtual events planned for Riverview Winter Carnival will include:

Lions Community Bingo: Local participating businesses are posting bingo numbers in their windows, visible from the parking lot! Find the numbers on the Lions Bingo card for a chance to win one of ten $50 gift cards to a participating business. A new card will be posted on February 5, 6, 9 and 12! For full details, visit www.townofriverview.ca/bingo

Winter Fun at Farmer Brown’s Greenhouse: Farmer Brown’s is offering a variety of activities for all ages both weekends. Try your luck in the first annual Snowshoe Poker Run on February 5. Take part in trails, farm-to-table winter dining, crafts, build-a-bear and more at Family Fun Day on February 12. Explore the property’s network of fat bike trails and mouth-watering oven fired pizzas on February 13 during Trails and Ales!

Explore Albert County Snowshoe Series: Several free in person guided tours and virtual presentations are waiting for you! Learn from local enthusiasts about the best trails to explore in winter, where to rent snowshoes, secondary activities to enjoy while you are snowshoeing and how to get started if you’re new to this winter activity. The snowshoe series is proudly presented by a collective of partners including Maritime Detours, Fundy Biosphere Region, Farmer Brown’s Greenhouse, Town of Riverview, Riverview Youth Collective, Hiking Plus+ and Fundy Hiking Trails Association.

Virtual Film Screening Water Warriors: On Feb. 11, the Fundy Biosphere Region will present a free virtual screening of Water Warriors, a New Brunswick documentary about Indigenous and non-Indigenous, English-and French-speaking who come together to protect their water from the oil and gas industry.
