Business Spotlight: Ergon Inc.

Regardless of someone’s economic, social or occupational status, no one is immune from experiencing poor mental health at some point in their lifetime, be it among themselves or a loved one, with at least 20 per cent of Canadians facing challenges with mental well-being. Having been dramatically stigmatized in the past, mental health is a subject that usually evokes fear and apprehension; fear of the unknown and apprehension of acknowledging when emotional distress is present and should be addressed. Many will suffer in silence from the mere avoidance of seeking professional help, but thanks to a growing effort of bringing a rather sensitive subject to the forefront, awareness surrounding mental health has made significant strides.

Mental health can impact how we feel, how we behave and how we manage stressful situations on a day-to-day basis, and since mental health affects everyone differently there is no set service that acts as a one-size-fits-all. For this reason, it is important to take a holistic and tailored approach when it comes to addressing your individual concerns, and to seek professional help and guidance to ensure a pathway to success.

Ergon Inc. Life Centre is a not-for-profit organization located in the Town of Riverview that aims to provide a first-class therapeutic service that operates in collaboration with the Community Mental Health Clinic and Department of Social Development.

The Ergon Inc. Life Centre provides responsive support and training to individuals in all areas across their life span by identifying individual goals and action plans to best assist all members. When mental health inhibits an individual’s ability to find and maintain employment, the life centre staff is also able to provide workplace essential skills training, employability training and pre-employment training.

Aside from offering mental health and disability services to those in need, Ergon Inc. also operates Ergon Thrift, a local thrift shop that helps fund their program offerings and counselling support. Ergon Thrift also acts as a potential employment opportunity to give members the tools to be effective in today’s workforce and to further excel in life. Ergon Thrift offers premium quality, gently used and unused clothing and household items. Born and raised in the Town of Riverview, Executive Director Cory Thibodeau wants to give back to his community through mental health awareness, advocacy, and the tools for a better life. Learn more
