How Sweet It Is - Janet's Bakeshop & Crafts Finds Home in Riverview
Janet Hebert loves to bake, and more than that, she loves that her baking makes people happy. She thrives on seeing the look on a person’s face when they try her sweets, and for years has dreamed of opening a brick-and-mortar store. In July 2023, that dream was realized and Made with Love – Janet’s Bakeshop & Crafts opened at 206 Pine Glen Road.
When you walk into Janet’s Bakeshop you get much more than a familiar array of sweets and cakes. There are over 40 local vendors sharing their creations in the shop, so customers can find a gift that supports local, a card to go with it, a cake for any occasion, plus a tasty treat for themselves.
“It is meaningful to me that I can engage with the community here,” says Janet. “I’ve always liked Riverview, and when I found the storefront on Pine Glen, I knew that Cinderella had found her glass slipper.”
That community feel permeates Janet’s Bakeshop. When you enter, you’ll be greeted by an eclectic array of goods, and the warm smell of freshly baked treats wafting through the doors. Janet also offers grab and go lunches, with a menu that includes a variety of soups and sandwiches. “I love to make people happy, and nothing beats the feeling of a satisfied customer — whether they have found the perfect gift that supports local or have taken a bite of something I’ve made here, that joy motivates me,” says Janet.
It’s not just the humans of Riverview that Janet cares about, as the grand-opening BBQ on Saturday, September 23, is a fundraiser for Riley’s Legacy Cat Rescue and Maritime Assistance Canines. In addition to a BBQ and baked goods, the event includes a “Meet the Maker” market, featuring local vendors whose goods are featured in the store. The grand opening event also falls during Riverview Harvest Fest so you can expect a festive Fall photo station for you to commemorate the afternoon.
