Public information session for the Gunningsville Blvd. intersection project

Residents are invited to attend a public information session to learn more about the upcoming infrastructure improvements to the Gunningsville Boulevard intersection at Coverdale Road and Hillsborough Road.

Residents can drop into Riverview Town Hall between 6 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12 to obtain information, review the traffic plan and ask questions.

Construction is scheduled to take place between July 3 and August 31 with the majority of work completed overnight to minimize disruption during peak traffic times.

Modifications to the intersection include adding a second left-turn lane from Gunningsville Bridge, installing a second left-turn lane on Coverdale Road, adding a second northbound through lane on Gunningsville Boulevard and installing a second receiving lane north and east of the intersection. The existing right-turn lane from Hillsborough Road onto Gunningsville Bridge will be converted to a yielding lane.

As part of the project, the bike trail on Gunningsville Boulevard will be extended and connect with the sidewalk and crosswalk on Coverdale. All other bikes lanes will remain unaffected. Cyclists will be detoured during construction.

The new configuration is needed to address long-standing traffic congestion at the intersection and, more urgently, meet capacity expected when the causeway is closed for six months in 2020 during construction of the Petitcodiac bridge and channel.

This project is part of the Town’s ongoing commitment to planning, building and maintaining public infrastructure to meet the needs of our growing and increasingly diverse community. It is funded through a 60/40 cost-sharing agreement with the Province of New Brunswick contributing 40 per cent based on a cost of $2 million.
