Sew Special – Joanne Girouard Threads Success at Unique Sewing Solutions
Joanne Girouard still remembers the feel of her aunt’s manual sewing machine that she first used at six years old. In the small community of Richibucto, her aunt would make fishing nets for lobster traps, and so Joanne’s love for sewing began. After working in a variety of industries she came back to her passion and is now celebrating five years at her own sewing studio, Unique Sewing Solutions, on Coverdale Road.
Specializing in hemming, alterations, and embroidery, Joanne’s sewing career expanded with Sunny Brae dry cleaning and Boutique Du Cordonnier as depots for her work. This resulted in hiring additional sewers to compliment her offerings. Sewing is a challenging industry, but Joanne is inspired by those she serves and wouldn’t want to do anything else.
“There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing the result of a sewing task! To see the joy of our customers and to provide quality service to a community of such caring, friendly people is a dream,” says Joanne.
Providing quality service at a reasonable price is more than good business to Joanne. To keep residents shopping in Riverview means that the community continues to thrive, the local economy prospers, and the sense of belonging Joanne feels is shared.
“Riverview as a whole is a hidden gem,” says Joanne. “From the programming for seniors to youth, this is a great place to live. The support for local businesses gives a small shop like mine a chance to succeed.”
From the small town of her origins to Riverview, Joanne loves being able to contribute to the thriving community of her home. Joanne is celebrating five years in business on December 1, and to thank all customers for putting their trust in Unique Sewing Solutions, she is doing a weekly draw for the month of December to receive a free hemming or alteration service.
