Town announces free webinar series targeting food sustainability

RIVERVIEW (N.B.) – To highlight the importance of food sustainability, the Town of Riverview will offer a free 12-week live webinar series starting next week led by local culinary expert Chef Cherrie Moreault.

“This Food Sustainability Series will unveil the many wonders of living in New Brunswick and the ways in which we can access, grow, and prepare nutritious food for all,” says Tahlia Ferlatte, Economic Development Officer at the Town of Riverview. “The initiative falls in line with our Integrated Community Sustainability Plan, the framework that guides us in creating a sustainable future for generations to come.”

Through the live webinars, participants will learn how to begin implementing sustainable food practices in their homes and communities. The weekly, one-hour seminars will be led by Chef Moreault, owner and operator of The Little Olive Tree in Memramcook and Lead Chef at the culinary educational service ChefTorial.

The series is open to all.

“This will be a fantastic opportunity for folks to discover family-friendly, sustainable food recipes while also exploring new ways to integrate a variety of products into those recipes that are available across our province,” says Chef Moreault.

The webinar series will be accessible free of charge via Zoom every Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., from January 27 to April 14, 2021. It will be filmed at the Coverdale Community Centre in the Town of Riverview’s Class 5 commercial kitchen. The Coverdale Community Centre also houses Riverview's local food bank, community garden, and an incubator program for early-stage startups operating in the food sector.

At the completion of the webinars in April, the series will be available for viewing on the Town’s website. We’d like to thank our partners at the Food Depot Alimentaire, Albert County Food Bank, Food for All NB and The Farmers’ Truck for their support.
