We are currently recruiting for the position of Communications Coordinator for the Department of Human Resources and Corporate Communications.

The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the development and execution of communications and marketing strategies, initiatives and programs. This requires collaborating with various Town departments to ensure consistent alignment of communications programs and practices to support the Town’s Strategic Plan.

In fulfilling this role, the incumbent will be involved in the creation of Town newsletters, bulletins, press releases and other internal publications. This position also assists in the development of various departmental special events and programs, community affairs and tourism initiatives.  They will also create content and monitor the Town’s social media feeds as well as developing materials for the Town’s website.

The position requires solid strategic and tactical skills relating to communications and marketing, media relations, digital communications, and project management as well as the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, or other relevant post-secondary program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of work experience handling corporate or government communications, original writing and public relations.
  • Ability to clearly and creatively compose correspondence, reports and promotional materials using varied media and writing styles for different purposes and audiences.
  • Highly effective prioritization and time management skills to meet deadlines and deal with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and editing requirements with the ability to effectively advise others. 
  • Excellent demonstrated knowledge of Office 365, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, SharePoint and Teams. 
  • Experience using Canva and the programs in Adobe Creative Suites to design marketing materials is a definite asset. 
  • Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, creative in solutions while embracing challenges.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Functional ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset. 
  • Knowledge of website content management systems is an asset.
  • Familiarity with analytical tools for social media and websites is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Town of Riverview and the Tri-Community area is an asset.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends. 
  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sectors Check to meet Town standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing all materials before going public to ensure a cohesive message and brand standard.
  • Providing creative advice on the design and creation of ads, video production, photography/image development, web pages, posters, pamphlets, newsletters, marketing materials, newsletters, etc.
  • Organizing and maintaining digital media archives, including photos and videos.
  • Contributing to the research, writing, proofreading and production of a wide range of Town publications and content as needed. 
  • Assisting with the coordination of press releases and marketing campaigns from various departments.
  • Helping maintain the Town’s website – newsfeed, add/update pages, etc.
  • Assisting with Council’s media responses and preparation for speaking engagements.  This may involve, but is not limited to, managing media lists, writing press releases, backgrounders, fact sheets, articles, key messaging, speeches and speaking points and coordinating media requests. 
  • Researching and creating Council Highlights from the various Council meetings.
  • Coordinating the on-going efforts of the Town’s use of social media to promote communications and marketing materials.
  • Curating, ordering and distributing Town promotional items in collaboration with other departments.
  • Serving as the alternate in delivering communications during emergency/crisis situations. Incident Command System (ICS) training will be provided.
  • Participating in community partnership projects and committees.

Working Conditions:

Incumbent may be required to work non-traditional hours including days, evenings, weekend, and holidays. The work may be carried out in various locations and/or Town Facilities.
