Council passes resolution regarding water consumption
RIVERVIEW (N.B.) – Following a public notice sent out yesterday regarding non-essential water use, Town Council passed a resolution to provide additional support for the direction on non-essential water consumption:
The Town is asking residents to participate in these efforts to ensure the community has a sustainable water system.
On Wednesday, June 24, 2020, the Town Council of Riverview passed the following resolution:
WHEREAS the Town of Riverview has recorded its highest level of water consumption; and
WHEREAS the Town is in danger of many of its residents losing the use of their water;
THEREFORE the Town Council of Riverview hereby bans non-essential water usage beyond general consumption for activities including:
- Watering lawns or gardens beyond that which is necessary for plants to survive (watering of plants should only occur before 8 a.m. and after 6 p.m. and for no more than one hour in a 24 hour period).
- Outside recreational activities using excessive water.
- Washing down outside areas such as siding, sidewalks, patios, parking lots, etc.
- Washing vehicles.
- Using sprinklers for any other purpose.
Residents can report over usage of water by calling the By-law Enforcement Office at 506-387-2256.
Residents not complying with the resolution are guilty of an offense and liable on conviction to a minimum fine of $200 and a maximum fine of $1070. Residents will be notified through the media when the ban has been lifted.
