Council Highlights – May 26, 2025

Council Highlights provide a snapshot of public meetings. For the official record, please refer to the adopted minutes, which are posted once approved at next month’s Regular Council Meeting. Consult this meeting's agenda to view presentations and files mentioned in the Council Highlights.

Committee of the Whole Meeting

CORRESPONDENCE

  • Council passed a recommendation to authorize representatives of the 2025 grad class of Riverview High School to conduct a parade through a portion of the Town of Riverview.
  • Council received a request from Marvin Rotrand Director General of United Against Hate Canada to support a bid for Canadian presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) for 2027 or 2028.  Taken as information.

PETITIONS, PRESENTATIONS, & DELEGATIONS

  • Presentation by RHS Student Government on grant funds. This update overviewed how the $2,500 grant funds from the Town were used for student-led initiatives and educational means.

EXTERNAL REPORTS

  • Building and Planning – the Building Permit Report and the Development & Activity Report for the month of April 2025 were shared.
  • The Codiac RCMP shared their snapshot for the month of April 2025. All are welcome to attend a community engagement session with the RCMP being held on June 11 at the Riverview Community Hall, 145 Lakeside Dr. from 6 – 8 p.m.

DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS

  • All Departments shared their monthly reports for April 2025.
  • An inquiry from Council was made as part of the Public Works & Engineering report regarding the all-way stop being added to the corner of Buckingham and Whitepine. This intersection didn’t reach the traffic threshold required to add a light, which is why the all-way stop will be implemented to help resolve the traffic issues at this intersection.
  • As part of the report from Riverview Fire & Rescue, it was shared that over $21,000 was raised through the Fill the Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Two new fire trucks also arrived this month, with a formal ceremony planned for July.
  • A reminder to residents that the Runneymeade entrance to Mill Creek Nature Park is temporarily closed while the retention pond is being built, likely until early August. Please use the Robertson Street entrance to the park for the time being. The Town is waiting on more signage to let residents know about this change.

OTHER BUSINESS

  • The May Grant Report was presented and only the staff recommendations were accepted.
  • Council passed a recommendation to approve the 2024 Annual Report.
  • Council passed a recommendation to adopt summer hours for the months of July and August, where there will be no Committee of the Whole Meetings and Regular Council Meetings will begin at 4 p.m.
