Job Summary:
The Town of Riverview is currently accepting applications for the position of Engineering Technologist for the Department of Engineering & Public Works.
The purpose of this position is to perform technical engineering work in the field and in an office environment. Field work may consist of survey and layout necessary to successfully complete construction projects and operating contracts including inspections of general municipal infrastructure, such as sanitary and storm sewer, water system, service locates, curb & gutter, street reconstruction, asphalt paving, street patching, and street line markings.
Office work may involve the preparation of plan/profile drawings and documents necessary to implement the Town’s operating contracts and capital projects. Office work may also include management of the Town’s asset inventory databases, preparation of tangible capital asset reports, update the Town’s as-built records (GIS & survey) and assisting engineering and public works staff, as required.
Regular communication with other departments and municipal staff, contractors and the public will be an integral part of the position.
Education:
High School graduation and successful completion of an approved technical course in the field related to municipal engineering that is accredited by the NB Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Must be a member of the N.B.S.C.E.T.T. and ability to maintain membership in this association.
Minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience as a certified engineering technologist, preferably in a consulting or municipal environment.
This role requires working with GIS and AutoCAD.
Experience with survey technologies and equipment is an asset.
Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to split work between field and office, as required.
Ability to interpret and implement Town policies and procedures.
Ability to interpret and implement the NB Occupational Health & Safety Act and WorkSafeNB regulations.
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills, strong presentation skills.
Ability to communicate in both official languages is considered an asset.
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Valid NB Driver’s license.
Criminal Record Check to meet Town standards.
Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities
Reviews as-built drawings
Develops and manages various Town’s asset inventory databases.
Maintains the road condition assessment database.
Updates the GIS information to reflect work performed by Public Works
Develops engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts and sketches.
Contract and tender document preparation including plan and profile drawings.
Preparation of construction specifications and cost and material estimates.
Assists with the development of construction project schedules and reports, assists in preparing the final financial report to meet PSAB requirement.
Conduct field topographic surveys, inspection and technical investigations of infrastructure systems, including water, sanitary, storm, curb and gutter installation, street construction, asphalt paving, lane marking, buildings and/or other structures.
Conduct field visits to document physical inspections of new services connections projects or as necessary.
Provides locates of Town assets, streetlight wires and water & sewer.
Produces and reviews reports, drawings, maps, and plans as required.
Works with and assists crews and Working Foremen with layout (pipe grades, alignment) and record collection of the work
Respond to residents’ concerns on various topics.
Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other Town employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
Performs other duties, as assigned, or required by the Municipal/Project Engineer and/or the Department Director.
Shift, Hours of work:
Based on the CUPE Local 2162 collective agreement, Article 9.
Wage and salary:
This position is full-time permanent and is represented by CUPE Local 2162 with a rate of pay of $34.02 per hour.
