Job Summary:

The Town of Riverview is currently accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator II (Term – Six Months) for the Department of Engineering & Public Works. 

The Equipment Operator II is expected to perform duties under limited supervision in accordance with accepted practices and precautions of operating and servicing equipment used for municipal snow plowing, road salting, ditching, repairing and clearing water and sewer lines, grading and sweeping operations.  Given the nature of the work, the position may require work outside traditional hours; and may be called upon to assist in various other municipal public works operations.     

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED);

Required Knowledge Skills and Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years practical work experience in the operation and servicing of heavy equipment and vehicles including but not limited to: snowplow, excavator, front end loader and backhoe; 

  • Valid Class 3E New Brunswick driver’s license with New Brunswick Driver’s Abstract meeting Town’s expectations;

  • Criminal Record Check, meeting Town’s expectations;

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;

  • Ability to understand and follow safe work policies as outlined by the Town of Riverview and the province of New Brunswick;

  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours and/or extended hours, when required; 

  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and problem solve for a wide variety of duties in the occupational field.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a desire to provide quality service to the public. 

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination with the ability to read imperial and metric measurements. 

  • Attention to detail and aptitude to follow detailed work instructions and job procedures.

  • Willingness to work extended hours and to participate in call outs, in accordance with the collective agreement. 

  • Ability to function in a team-based work environment, ensuring the health and safety of all employees, visitors and members of the public. 

  • Ability to safely perform physical tasks including moving objects up to 50lbs, working at heights, use of hazardous substances, hand/power tools, powered mobile/heavy equipment.

  • Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and weather conditions.

  • Highly proficient in the use of tools, equipment and machinery used in this working environment.

  • Operate and maintain powered mobile equipment including but not limited to snowplow, excavator, loader, backhoe, street sweeper, flusher, one-ton trucks;
  • Perform maintenance, upkeep and repairs of municipal infrastructure and equipment;
  • Act as a flag person to safely control traffic flows during maintenance work on public streets;
  • Safely operate a variety of power and hand tools;
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise regarding heavy equipment;

  • Responsible for the safe storage and efficient organization of Town equipment, tools and supplies and participate in good housekeeping on the job;
  • Participate in on-going training and development including but not limited to Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection education, Workplace Standard First Aid and CPR, etc;
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public and co-workers;
  • Other duties/tasks, as assigned.

Shift, Hours of work: 

Based on the CUPE Local 2162 collective agreement, Article 9. 

Wage and salary:

This is a Term position for six-months and is represented by CUPE Local 2162 with a rate of pay of $32.31 per hour.
