Job Summary: 

The Town of Riverview is hiring Lifeguards and Swim Instructors, at the Pat Crossman Memorial Aquatic Centre starting in September. 

The Incumbent will help deliver high-quality swim instruction and ensure a safe, welcoming aquatic environment for all. The role is primarily focused on teaching swimming lessons during weekends and weeknights and includes responsibilities in both instruction and lifeguarding.

Part I: Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality swimming instruction
  • Ensure a safe pool environment
  • Plan and teach swimming lessons
  • Enforce safety regulations
  • Respond to emergencies
  • Maintain a safe and tidy pool deck area.
  • Lock the facility and secure equipment as assigned.

Part II: Qualifications:

  • Valid National Lifeguard certification through Lifesaving Society
    • Candidates with a Red Cross certifications (Water Safety Instructor and/or Red Cross Guard) will need to participate in a Lifesaving Society transfer clinic upon hire.
  • Swim Instructor certification is preferred but not required.
  • Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Desire to educate the public on water safety and swimming techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with swimmers of all levels.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to connect with patrons and create a welcoming, positive environment.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.

Hours and Rate of Pay:

Part-time or full-time positions available, with day, evening, and weekend shifts.

  • Swim Instructor / Lifeguard: $17.00 – $19.50 per hour

Training Opportunities: 

We’re committed to helping applicants become qualified and confident in their roles. If you require the necessary certifications to be eligible to apply, please note the following training opportunities being offered:

  1. National Recertification (if needed):

We will host a recertification on Sunday, September 7 (start time TBC).

  1. Swim Instructor certification: 

We will host the Swim Instructor course from Thursday, Sept 4 to Sunday, Sept 7:

  • Thursday: Orientation from 5:30–7:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 5:00–9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
