Regular Council Meeting
ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES
- Public Hearing – June 9, 2025
- Regular Council Meeting – June 9, 2025
- Committee of the Whole Meeting – June 23, 2025
PETITIONS, PRESENTATIONS, & DELEGATION
- Presentation by Jane Dunnett on the Riverview Seniors Roundtable, providing an update on the Committee’s progress on Riverview’s age-friendly status. Their work includes promoting education and awareness of housing options for seniors, accessible and affordable transportation, and engagement in the community.
- Presentation by Matt Sutherland on a proposed fundraising and marquee event, Summer Nights. This is a vision that was born out of a fundraising concert event last year at Holy Whale Brewery (Iron Fest) to support the journey of local student Levi Sutherland who experienced a life-alerting accident in 2024. Sutherland proposed establishing an annual festival where proceeds will go to support Levi as well as others in need. Council was informed that preliminary meetings have been held with the Economic Development and Parks Departments, and while this project doesn’t currently meet the qualifications for a Town of Riverview Community Investment Grant, there are other opportunities to partner and receive funding, such as the province of New Brunswick’s Community Investment Grant.
- Presentation from Jennifer Brown, Associate with Dillon Consulting Ltd., on the results of the second round of engagement and the “What We Heard” report from the Municipal Plan Review process. Community feedback was collected through two in-person Community Open Houses and online engagement. The key themes from the feedback included a strong emphasis on environmental protection and climate resilience, a need for more housing options, and frustrations with the current building permit process.
- Presentation from Jenna Stewart, Planner with Plan360, of the preliminary report on the new Municipal Plan & Zoning By-Law. Questions were answered regarding owner-occupied provisions, how this affects the Housing Accelerator Fund requirements and installments, as well as future funding.
- Council passed a motion to set the date and time for a Public Presentation & Public Hearing for the New Municipal Plan (300-34) & New Zoning By-Law (300-8). The public presentation — a formal presentation of the proposed plan to residents in a council meeting — will take place on August 11, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The public hearing — where residents will be given another formal opportunity to weigh in on the plan, this time, in front of Council and in writing — will take place on October 14, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
