Riverview Repeats Four-Day Work Week

Town of Riverview employees are pleased to welcome a four-day work week schedule again, beginning in May. The seasonal compressed work schedule, which will run from May 1 to October 6, was met with overwhelming support from employees.

Employees have been arranged into two teams to ensure five days of coverage for all Town services. Team A will have Fridays off, with Team B taking Monday as their extra day.

“Teams will be working the same number of hours, simply restructured to accommodate the extra day off,” said Tyla Finlay, Director of Human Resources and Corporate Communication for the Town of Riverview. “Our workforce is split into groups to ensure that hours are consistent, and services remain accessible to the public as expected.”

The hours for Town operations are not affected by the compressed work week schedule and remain as follows;

Town Hall:
Monday – Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm

Parks, Recreation and Community Relations Office:
Monday-Friday - 8:30am to 4:30pm

Operation Centre:
Monday-Friday - 8:00am to 4:30pm

"During the pilot program last year, we were able to gain valuable insights - not only into how it affected operations, but also the personal lives of staff. Our team reported that the compressed work week positively impacted their mental health and well-being last summer, citing more time with family as the top benefit to the four-day schedule."

Over 80% of respondents to an internal survey said that the new schedule served them well, and over 75% were more productive and satisfied with their jobs.

“We’ve seen the four-day work week become a trend – for good reason – and everyone does it a bit differently,” noted Finlay. “We took what we learned last year and adjusted the schedule to what suits the Town best. By giving employees the option to restructure their schedule, we’re directly supporting our values of sustainability and wellbeing. Although we aren’t able to make the schedule work operationally throughout the winter months, many of our team are certainly looking forward to adapting to the compressed schedule next week.”
