Is Your Household Ready? Emergency Preparedness Week Is May 3–9
The Town of Riverview is proud to recognize Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week), a national awareness initiative held annually to encourage Canadians to take steps to protect themselves, their families, and their communities before an emergency strikes.
This year's theme — Be Prepared. Know Your Risks — is a call-to-action for residents to understand the hazards that exist in their area and to learn what steps they can take to stay safe.
EP Week runs from May 3 to 9, 2026.
"Most of us don't think about emergencies until we're in one. EP Week is an opportunity to change that. Take ten minutes this week, sit down with your family, and ask: do we have a plan? Do we know what to do? That conversation could make all the difference.” — Robin True, Fire Chief, Riverview Fire & Rescue
Understanding local risks is a key part of being prepared. Riverview residents may face a range of hazards — from severe weather and flooding to fire — and knowing what to expect can help households respond quickly and confidently.
Deputy Chief Fire Prevention Bentley Rice has put together a helpful video full of practical emergency preparedness tips tailored to our community.
"Preparedness doesn't have to be complicated. There are simple, practical steps every household can take right now — knowing your risks, building an emergency kit, and having an emergency plan with your family.” — Bentley Rice, Deputy Chief Fire Prevention, Riverview Fire & Rescue
