Council Highlights – October 14, 2025

Public Hearing 

Town Council Intends to Consider an Updated Municipal Plan By-Law 300-34 and Zoning By-Law 300-8. 

  • Presentation by Jennifer Brown, Dillon Consulting, followed by Sam Gerrand and Jenna Stewart, Planners with Plan360, on the Draft Municipal Plan and Zoning By-Law.
  • 89 letters were received from the public with ten registered speakers sharing their thoughts. Comments from the gallery were also received and included support and opposition to various aspects of the Municipal Plan, including chickens in rural areas only, Residential Low-Rise zoning allowances for four-unit townhouses, and the stipulations around accessory dwelling unit standards.

ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

  • The request for financial assistance from the 650 Vanier Air Cadets was denied. 

CORRESPONDENCE

  • The Planning Advisory Committee submitted a recommendation that Riverview Town Council proceed with the adoption of By-Law 300-34 Town of Riverview Municipal Plan and By-Law 300-8 Town of Riverview Zoning By-Law. This was taken as information by Council.  

RECOMMENDATIONS FROM COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

  • Council approved the recommendation to award a grant to the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton Business Excellence Awards in the amount of $1,000.
  • Council denied a request for financial assistance from the NB Real Estate Board.
  • Council adopted a new policy related to memorial crosswalk specifications, installation, and maintenance, and passed an amendment to grandfather in the existing 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride, Indigenous Truth & Reconciliation, and Veteran Memorial Crosswalks to waive the associated fee.
  • Council approved the recommendation to undertake the recommendations from the Council Compensation Committee. 

BY-LAWS

  • Council unanimously passed the first reading of By-Law 300-34 and By-Law 300-8, Municipal Plan and Zoning By-Laws. The second and third readings of the By-Laws are scheduled to take place on November 10, 2025.  

NEW BUSINESS

  • Council awarded RFP 25-200, By-Law Enforcement Service, to Maritime Enforcement services.
  • Council appointed Mareika Dow as Acting Town Clerk beginning October 20, 2025 to cover a leave.
  • Council approved a partial street closure of Quinn Court on January 30, 2026 for the Ignite fireworks event that kicks off Winter Carnival.
  • Council passed a motion to extend the meeting time past 11 p.m. in order to cover all agenda items. 

NEXT MEETING

The next Committee of the Whole meeting takes place on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be live-streamed on our website, and the agenda will be available prior to the meeting on the Town of Riverview Council Meetings webpage

2026 Municipal Budget Discussions will take place on November 5, 2025, in Council Chambers, and will continue on November 8, if required.
