Committee of the Whole Meeting
PETITIONS, PRESENTATIONS, & DELEGATIONS
- Presentation from Andrew Willett, Director of Community Relations & Indigenous Relations, and Robert Fawcett, Director of Corporate Relations – Forestry, with Irving. The presentation covered the Municipal Shared Landscape Initiatives, which aims to achieve 15% protected lands and waters in NB by 2027. The balanced forestry management plan will see new social impact areas move into conservation, and some working forests returned to operation near forest-dependent communities. Council will receive a letter of support to review and give consideration to at a future meeting.
EXTERNAL REPORTS
- Building & Planning – the Building Permit Report and the Development & Activity Report for the month of September 2025 were shared.
- The Codiac RCMP shared the snapshot for the month of September 2025. In the report Inspector White expanded on incidents taking place in Riverview, including speeding and property crime.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
- All Departments shared their reports for September/October 2025.
- As part of the Legislative Services report Council was reminded that there is an Open House this Wednesday, October 29 for anyone interested in running in the 2026 Municipal Election. Anyone interested in learning more about local governance is welcome to attend.
OTHER BUSINESS
- As part of the Grant Report Council made the following recommendations to bring forward at the next Regular Council Meeting:
- A grant in the amount of $500 to the Bangladesh Community Members of Southeastern NB Fall Fusion Event
- A grant in the amount of $2,500 to Shelter Movers Greater Moncton.
- Updates to the Procedural By-Law were presented by staff, and included changes aimed at clarifying the process for the Mayor vacating their chair, a Notice of Motion procedure, a formalized process for receiving petitions, and a new section on Raising a Question of Privilege.
- Council passed a motion to recommend that Council proceed to give first reading to By-Law 100-10-07 on November 10, 2025, with a few changes that were agreed by consensus. The revised Procedural By-Law will be presented at the next Regular Council Meeting on November 10.
NEXT MEETING
Council meets next for 2026 Municipal Budget Discussions on November 5, 2025, in Council Chambers, and will continue on November 8, if required. The next Regular Council Meeting is on Monday November 10 at 7 p.m. The meetings will be live-streamed on our website, and the agenda will be available prior to the meeting on the Town of Riverview Council Meetings webpage.
